The folks on this board should copyright these great intellectual concepts their developing for Ampex. We should be so lucky that they take on some of these ideas. Great stuff, all. My only hangover is that this stock will never recover. Somehow, I managed to dodge all the in laws and relatives just like the Flash dodges bullets. Swiftly, and with aplomb. I had a couple of beers over at our local bar, where the owner has brought a Roland Work Station, which is essentially an 8 track recording studio in a box (with 65 virtual recording tracks), and itÕs just a little bigger than a computer. ItÕs got everything built into it, a mixer, a sound card with several hundred echo chambers, compressors, Amplifier simulators (Fender, Marshall, etc), Microphone simulators (Telefunken, Neuiman, etc). High Tech is going nuts. This little BOX replaces everything I have in my basement, which covers 20 feet of my north wall. Now, why the heck didnÕt Ampex think of something like that? The amazing thing are the virtual tracks. You can overdub 8 separate tracks on each ONE of the eight tracks. Then you can cut and paste a composite performance of those 8 tracks and save it to the primary track youÕre working with.
Gotta get me one of those suckers with my tax refund.......(Cheap $1600). ItÕs 20 bit technology, and you can cut directly to a CD. ItÕll store up to 200 songs on the unit. Then you remove the disc and install another one. The discs cost about 85 bucks each. Or I guess you can save the data over to a zip........And all of this was designed for my bartender, and folks who just like to play music as a hobby. And itÕs all pro quality. Yup, anybody can make super sounding CDs now. (They have a model for rappers too, which comes with built in drum beats......)
It seems logical that Ampex should somehow be able to make a couple of bucks, someday, somehow, considering the big hand they had in developing recording technology. IÕm holding my breath.......Have a good Ôun, yÕall. Next year, IÕm investing in a champaigne company........2000 should come in with a bang, right before the Y2 crash........Then IÕll go live with the hill people, as the cities burn.........(one possible scenario). Hey, is it too late to become a Morman? TheyÕve got a corner on all the food, I hear....
