The fact that ANYONE could honestly believe Starr was "independent" is laughable; and his actions are at the root of my deepest concerns as well.

Re: Starr, like a lot of people I wondered how an obviously intelligent individual (yes I give Starr credit for that) could have such terrible judgement as to start this entire rabid sexlife probing saga. I guess Starr was up for the supreme court as yet another exceptional candidate from the right - you know, the best man for the job in the Souter and Thomas tradition, and with Doles defeat his options were somewhat limited... this IC post came along to sustain him until the republicans won again. I suppose that, faced with his inability to find anything at all on Clinton after $40 or $50 million (or whatever the exact figure is really not the point Mr. "Conscience") he lapsed into a sort of depression, or desperation that his stellar legal career was essentially over - and that emotion led him to produce the substantive and factual Starr report that we all know and admire.

Ive seen people do some pretty crazy things to keep their start up companies from going under (ex. stealing from customers credit cards, frivilous lawsuits etc) and this just reminds me of that. My point is, I doubt the Starr Report was based on Starrs inherent need to get at the truth. It was a selfish ploy to get something on Clinton to save himself not his party etc. Starr is a coward I think. Just a theory.
