Data Broadcasting up due to MarketWatch IPO

NEW YORK, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Data Broadcasting Corp (Nasdaq:DBCC - news) jumped 27 percent in response to a Business Week article, bolstering the highly anticipated initial public offering of MarketWatch.com, a joint venture of Data Broadcasting and CBS Corp (NYSE:CBS - news), an analyst said.

Data Broadcasting shares jumped 3-11/16 points to 18-1/8 during otherwise quiet Thursday afternoon trade. CBS shares were up 5/16 at 32-1/16.

The article in the latest issue of the weekly newsmagazine, said many investors anticipate MarketWatch.com ''to blast off after the opening--just like the recent IPOs of Internet outfits that serve robust niche markets.''

MarketWatch.com is expected to raise between $28 million and $33.6 million in a public offering in late Jan. 1999.

Its debut is anticipated to be a whooping success as it has been for many of its predecessors, such as uBid Inc (Nasdaq:UBID - news).

The online auctioneer had priced its IPO at $15 in early December and soared to a high of $188 the following week.

Bid was off 7-3/8 at 111-5/8 on Thursday.

Despite overall stunning success, some Internet-related companies have seen their stock values declining, mostly due to profit taking.
