TO ALL: I talked to John Francis (VP at ABTX). He says activity is the cumulative effect of numerous presentations ABTX made to brokers and institutions in late 1996. When Monsanto announced a big seed deal a couple weeks ago, Pioneer, DeKalb, Mycogen & Delta Pine got the price action. That interest has worked down to #5 now, which is ABTX. ABTX managers have spent the last two days in a strategy meeting (they recently brought on a Cargill guy). They'd like to do a secondary offering in June, anticipating (speculating?) that the March qtr. will be huge surprise to Wall St. and that the stock will be in the $8-10 range - prime secondary offering levels. He said they wouldn't do a secondary at a lesser price, though I wouldn't hold him to that.
