Hi Lazarre - Take a look at the AFC Web site (http://www.fibre.com/). They give a pretty good over view of their flagship product, the UMC 1000 Third Generation Digital Loop Carrier (3GDLC).

This devise features 6.2 Gbps bandwidth and delivers any service from POTS to xDSL over copper, fiber, and radio transport media.

Competitors include niche players such as Pair Gain and large integrators such as Alcatel, Nortel and Lucent.

Merrill analysts follow the company. Here is a link to their research report: askmerrill.com .

As a long term investor, I too believe the industry (specifically the RBOCs and CLECs) will be investing significant capital to "buildout" their next generation digital telecommunication systems. AFCI hit my radar for (1) their technology, (2) cash on hand, (3) relative valuation based on peers in the industry and (4) potential for merger with a larger integrator.

What other companies has your research uncovered? Also, based on the information in the above links, do you now have an opinion on AFCI and management's business strategy? It is always informative to hear other opinions from the outside looking in.

EKS

I have been accumulating a long term position in AFCI over the past few months and have a 8-12 month price target of around $20.
