Re 401Ks: not that I have found..the numbers I have come from a banking sector article, it's about 1T including money-market and 25 million are enrolled.
Government employees are enrolled in something similar..but I bet it's not included in these stats. Could Uncle Sam be supporting GE and Microsoft in the govt employee contribution plans? Hmmm...
Unfortunately, there's not much disclosure on 401K info...it's an unregulated and unsupervised market ...the average 401K investor does not know where the money is invested in the equity options. I know my 401K stock fund lost money over the last two years ending october, the big runup was probably used to break even for those still in the plan. Employees were consumed trying to trade their 401K options to make money. MU was the largest holding in a couple of options, followed by citicorp. Talk about a Ponzi scheme.
