I found the following paragraph from your Syquest news link interesting:

"I guess I feel dejected and abandoned...I bought the best based on performance and price, and the drive met all my expectations," wrote Robert Pace in an email message to CNET News.com in November. "Now without tech support, I will attempt to find a way to retrieve my data and switch to another media."

It appears that reliability was not one of his "expectations".

How many times have we read how flimsy the SparQ was? Why did so few people factor this into their purchasing decision?

While I have bought my share of junky PC parts, I never scrimp on quality when it comes to storage media. Cheap modems can be replaced without loss of data. Cheap disk storage, as this fellow can attest, is a different matter altegether.
