The irony is -- I have always been much of a bear on AOL, but I believe the stock still has a way to go. If you go back a year or two and read my posts, I had not a single decent thing to say about the company. I thought AOL was slow, cumbersome and non-innovative. Incredibly overvalued. And I cringed every time Jim Cramer was on CNBC talking it up as his number 1 internet play. But I was wrong. AOL has made the transition to an internet 'player' very well -- and they have very successfully wooed the Street. They continue to get paying customers at a rate that is dizzying. And they are successfully leveraging that customer base in the war for ad revenues (as well as control of the net). In addition, I very much like their acquisitions (including Netscape), which I believe prove Steve Case and company to be quite sharp negotiators and even visionaries. They will undoubtedly have a lot to say about the direction the internet takes over the next decade. As will Case's brother. All this said, I have practically no financial interest in AOL. And look forward to an opportunity to buy in at a better price.
