I like AOL too, not just as a stock. I started out buying mutual funds and eventually moved on to individual stocks. I view AOL in the same way. Just as I have hung on to a few funds, I am hanging onto AOL while also having expanded to Mindspring. My kids love AOL and I still use it once in a while but for most purposes (business, investing, etc) I prefer Mindspring. I think most beginners are well served by at least starting with AOL and I think that is what is happening.
