Steve,

I'm glad that you came over to this thread. I keep hoping that if enough people post on it, it will stay active. Anyhow, perhaps it will this time... (-:

Hiking and paddling sounds like it would be fantastic there. And I know what you mean about "cold water" looking shallow. It made me laugh to read that remark. In late October I was paddling in a favourite creek up here and, as the water was very cold, the algae was all gone and freshwater clams and fallen red maple leaves sitting on the sheets of slate under the water looked like they were only 2 or 3 feet below the canoe, when in fact they were more like 8 or 10 feet down. I also tend to equate "clear" with "cold"....

I'm mainly a flatwater paddler. I like to bring along my camera, binoculars and art supplies when I'm out paddling. I enjoy the actual paddling experience, but also birding, watching fish swimming in certain areas of the rivers such as under bridges or big willow trees growing on the banks. I really enjoy paddling into swamps where the only possible way of travelling is in a canoe.

Anyhow, it sounds like you've probably done a lot of that in the NE states. I live in Ontario and can find just about every class of river within about 100 miles of my place. It's a great place for paddlers... just wish the rivers weren't frozen solid for about 4 months of the year... (-:

BTW, is the adventure guide which you wrote out in print anywhere yet?

Talk later,
Croc
