Yep - it's a BIG GAMBLE and an EXPENSIVE gamble - with no guarantees.

But IF IF IF Intel succeeds with the IA64 - and this will take several years to accomplish, due to the new instruction set, do you know what it means for Intel's UPSIDE ?

The PowerPC had a "new" instruction set, although it had its heritage in the IBM RIOS Risc chip sets.
