Dear Mark; As a parent of four children I must interject that punishment is an act of love. You seem to only be able to look at this issue through mans perspective. Try to realize that the issue is more complicated than perhaps mere man can comprehend. Our vantage point is considerably smaller than God's. He created us (a fact that even secular scientists are coming to realize) and he knows what is best and how to obtain his ultimate objective. I will trust him and not the limited view of mankind.
