>>Do you count the the ESR or the ptn so I can see why nextel would count my phone as 3 adds but it would bring down the apru and as far as people wh have dispatch only they wouldn't be counted if they did not have a ptn also if the phone had dispatch only that would also bring down the apru. Here in san diego we used to stock 5 inactive nextel units and activate on as need basis Right now nextel will not let you do that with the 1000 because of lack inventory but they are giving the old units to have on stand by.>>
Rick:
You raise a good point.
There are a lot of Nextel phones placed on standby. I've recently done a good deal of cleaning up on my network - of the 200 units I have rougly 35-40 on standby. Some of this was the result of moving 20+ i1000's to replace i390s. We will be placing the i390s back on the network with other users as soon as things open up.
My average ARPU last month was $150/unit - active and inactive. With inactive phones this will drop this month.
I'll go back to my central point made here and on Yahoo recently. Nextel is not a digital cellular company: its a network company. Digital wireless Networking is what they do better than any other phone on the market today. The more Nextel can highlight this difference the more Wall Street will understand the true story behind this stock.
The missing link which needs to be brought to the forefront is this "network identity" issue. Who are we as users? How does my ptn number relate to yours. Could I interact with you on DC? If so, when, where, how, etc. I want to interact with as many users as possible.
The day Nextel pulls the governor on this thing is the day the value of ALL private networks on Nextel skyrocket. That's why I am messing around with this stuff.
The power of DC across the DAPS and across the country is unbelievable. This is like the internet. Instant, pervasive, everywhere. Directories of Nextel users will have a great value when they get this going.
Nextel's biggest problem is keeping this potential underwraps until they have the capacity to handle the volume. It's the old chicken and egg thing. I say, let some of the chickens out of the chicken coop - i.e. a few thousand users across the country who want to participate in this - and allow the foundation of cross-network DC get off to a good start.
Can you imagine the premium position Nextel's going to be in when they filter in only a select number of accounts over time across the country to cross-network/cross country DC?? They will be able to charge a premium for their existing services. This can be a very BIG new layer of revenue for Nextel going forward.
The bottom line is that we need more leadership from existing Nextel users to flush out and determine how this next phase will roll out nationwide. That's why I'm going what I'm doing over on www.delphi.com with the Nextel Worldwide Users Group. We really need users to come out of the woodwork from around the country to share information and their thoughts on this stuff going forward.
This forum is not the place to share ongoing operational and technical information about Nextel, its network, etc.
I will continue to post both here and on Yahoo. The point is we need to take more ownership of this thing. Finding, factoring, identifying a broad list of users from around the country who can work together to carry some influence going forward.
Take care. |
