Competition advisory:

Sun and Oracle are coming out with a fileserver appliance called Raw Iron. Supposedly want to "marginalize" Win 2000 by doing this.
Reference: Industry Standard magazine, Jan 4 1999, p18

i have a couple of reactions to this news item. first, i have a very negative opinion of oracle (and ellison), and only a fair-to-middlin' opinion of sun (and mcnealy). i think it is very much their style to be dogmatic about this and make this about fighting microsoft, as opposed to just selling a good product.

also, if sun and oracle are trying to get into this market, it must be a pretty lucrative one... ?

anyone have other thoughts?
