[GTE and Fujitsu] Pat, I was looking over some recent press releases and found this. Would Fujitsu be a leading candidate as a DSL system integrator for GTE? AMTX would fit nicely in here considering you've heard that AMTX is talking to Fujitsu and the AMTX/GTE trials.
Sounds sort of DSLish:<<The F9600 Multimedia Platform supports the transmission of voice, video and data applications across the wide area network. The system is designed to take advantage of current and future ISDN services, as well as wideband capabilities>>
ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Business Communication Systems today announced that GTE has signed a nationwide agreement to distribute Fujitsu's F9600 Multimedia Platform digital telephone system and Fujitsu's line of video conferencing and computer telephony integration (CTI) products. GTE's national sales force will begin selling Fujitsu products to businesses by the end of this month. The distribution agreement allows GTE to market, distribute and service Fujitsu's F960O(TM) Multimedia Platform private branch exchange (PBX), the ViewNet VS700S Series of video conferencing systems, IntelliCenter(TM) call center management platform and CTI applications to businesses in the 48 contiguous states. GTE will target the education, healthcare, manufacturing, financial and government industries in markets that complement Fujitsu's current distribution channels. GTE has distributed Fujitsu Business Communication Systems' smaller PBX systems since 1987 and will continue to distribute Fujitsu's Series 3 PBX. "American businesses are increasingly seeking to network their distant and remote offices to become more productive and gain a competitive advantage," said Don Oas, director of business voice products and services for GTE Telephone Operations. "Fujitsu's product portfolio provides those customers with sophisticated voice, video and data networking capabilities that can help them meet those goals." According to Oas, GTE has presented Fujitsu Business Communication Systems awards in the past, including the Vendor Quality Award of Excellence. "Fujitsu is continuing its concerted efforts to promote not just its considerable technology prowess, but also its system end-user applications, company support and service and marketing/distribution strategies," said Richard Costello, associate editor and analyst, DataPro Research Group, Delran, N.J. "The agreement with GTE to distribute the F6900, in addition to the Series 3 PBX, is another great opportunity for Fujitsu to realize continued U.S. PBX market share growth." The F9600 Multimedia Platform supports the transmission of voice, video and data applications across the wide area network. The system is designed to take advantage of current and future ISDN services, as well as wideband capabilities. The F9600 was the first PBX to support Nx64 kilobits per second bandwidth allocation and supports ISDN-based wideband transmission such as HO and H11 dial-up networking. Fujitsu's ISDN Private Network (FIPN) turns standard T-1 digital trunk lines into Primary Rate Interface connections to offer network transparency and enhanced network features. The F9600's integration with local area networks (LANs) allows for third-party call control based on Novell's Telephony Services Application Programmers' Interface (TSAPI) standard and LAN-based data to be transmitted across the same digital lines as voice and video applications. The F9600 also supports Microsoft's Telephony Application Programmers' Interface (TAPI) standard for first-party call control. IntelliCenter is a client/server-based call center platform that extends network integration, in-depth historical reporting, real-time display information and a graphical user interface to in-office and remote call center supervisors. The ViewNet VS700S Series provides standards-based video conferencing for distance learning, video arraignment and conference applications. All three models integrate with the F9600 Multimedia Platform. "Fujitsu is very pleased that GTE will distribute the F9600 platform as a core product offering," said Tony Floyd, vice president of sales, Fujitsu Business Communication Systems. "GTE has been an important sales channel for Fujitsu and this new partnership will certainly help us grow our domestic business. But the real winners from this new relationship are GTE customers. The combination of the GTE customer-oriented, applications-focused channel and the advanced technology capabilities offered by Fujitsu will help GTE customers realize measurable returns on their investments in technology and services." GTE Telephone Operations is the largest U.S.-based local telephone company, providing voice, video and data products and services through more than 23 million access lines in portions of the United States, Canada, South America, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
