I develop software in Java so I have followed it quite closely. The best place for information is sun.com which has the appropriate links. I use yahoo.com and search for Java to find out information regarding the continuing battle between MSFT and SUNW. JDB is the Java Database class library that allows the Java programming language to interface with a variety of databases. They are also developing a Java class library for InterNet commerce which will be dynamite. The JIT is the Just-In-Time Java compiler which several companies are developing which can speed up Java execution an order of magnitude. SUNW is a true innovator, I invest in them because I believe they have the best combination of talents of any American company. Innovation, management, quality products, they share their innovations with the industry(their good corporate citizens) and they treat their employees as a true resource.
