Mark,

In a perfect world violence would never be the answer but as the Christian believes, it will not be perfect until our Lord returns and makes it so and violence will be involved even in that because of peoples rebellion and Satan's. The reason it is not perfect is because the world is occupied by people who are under sin. It would be great if everyone had your peaceful attitude but that is far from the case and I have yet to meet a true pacifist. Do you consider yourself such? I am not, yet I don't condone violence as the first solution.
Andy Capp is a satire of much that is wrong with people. My point was the merit in the characters logic in determining the parents lack of discipline with his child being the source of that child's bad attitude.
A lack of discipline in Proverbs is equated with hating the child as it demonstrates not caring about the outcome of your offspring. I love my kids and want them to know there are consequences for doing wrong and will punish them for disobedience.
God loves people and says there are consequences for denying what He states is the way to eternal life. It would be backward if there were no warning, but there is.
"Punishment can be an act of love, but Loving is a greater act of love."
I once read the book "The Congressional Medal of Honour - Vietnam."
I was amazed that with almost every second or third medal awarded posthumously it was for a soldier that selflessly threw himself on a grenade sparing the lives of those around him and sacrificing his own. Love demonstrated amidst tremendous violence.
The bible says that this is the highest form of love, there is none greater than to lay down your life for a friend. John 15:13
Mark, you esteem love highly as you stated...."Love creates endless solutions for everything positive and wonderful imaginable."
I don't mock your opinions but question what you base them on. Recognizing the bible as God's manual of love and warning of judgment for sin and it's consequences I find better than the opinion of man. What consequences will I have for not accepting man's opinion?
You esteem love highly yet refuse the greatest gift of love anyone has ever given you. Jesus laying down His life for you. You risk much based upon the creations opinion as opposed to the Creators. What do you quote as the authority for the basis of your opinions?
John
