You can install your own personal firewall on your PC to keep "crackers" out ... one of the most popular products is ConSeal by Signal9. You can download a free 30 day demo from them at ...

signal9.com

Their software allows you to set rules for what type of access is allowed on your PC and logs all attempts by others to access your system. The log includes the IP address of the person attempting to connect, the port # on their machine they were using to connect from, and the port # on your machine they were trying to connect to.

In the meantime ... consider the following for your protection. Turn off (or at a minimum password protect) all "file and print sharing" on your PC. Get some reliable anti-virus software that scans for the popular "trojan horse" programs Netbus and Back Orifice (if you find these, remove them at once). Consider what "services" you have running on your PC, i.e. netbios, telnet, ftp, PC AnyWhere, game servers, etc. Shut these down unless absolutely necessary.

Good Luck!
