##<<<the tulipmania, biotechmania in late 80s, casinomania, restaurantmania, IOMmania, ZITLmania essentially bears the same thinking>>>

Internet cannot be compared to these "manias", None of the industries improved human lives. Internet does. None of them affected the lifestyles, education, children to this extent. The only revolution I can compare it with is the industrial revolution. And it hasn't died out.##

A couple more points. Iomega mania. Yes, Iomega provided a useful service and still does. That is a great portable data storage device which can hold much more data than a floppy disk. Zitel mania. Again, a much needed product to help numerous companies become Y2k compliant. Casino mania. Ever been to Las Vegas? A license to print money. And satisfy a need to gamble by more people than you realize. And restaurant mania. A good restaurant is desired by almost all. To say that a good restaurant does not help to improve one's life escapes me. The difference between all the above manias and the internet mania is that all the others charge for their services. The internet (except for the ISP's of which Yahoo is not) provide their services for free. They don't earn any money from providing it. Almost all the earnings come from banner advertisements. A source of income many might find dubious. Especially true in the case of Yahoo who gets so much from their partner Softbank. Yahoo may provide a wonderful service to us all for free. But bottom line, if they cannot earn some serious cash they will be in trouble.
