If Voodoo3 is the technology of 1999 this company will be in the toilet by the end of the year.

It is a common mistake to put technology and company success in the same boat. To put it plainly, the best technology doesn't always make a succesful company and the most successful company doesn't always have the best technology.

The question isn't, "Is Voodoo3 new?" The question is, "Will Voodoo3 sell?" Too many people are looking at Voodoo3 through the eyes of a retail consumer. Most of us here play the games and want the latest and coolest stuff. The plain fact of the truth is that we are a minority and we can't judge others by these things. Regardless of what we think games like Deer Hunter will continue to be a success. ATI has achieved tremendous success in the market and I think we can all agree that this success has been completely independent of their technology.

Voodoo3 is plainly an OEM targeted product. To replace Voodoo3 with Rampage would be a mistake. Rampage will use unproven technology and be way out of the price frame for most OEM's. Rampage would be poorly positioned in any mainstream market, but to hear the talk on the internet, Rampage is the ONLY thing that can help 3dfx win marketshare. Huh? I plead everyone to think about this strategy for a second. Who exactly is 3dfx selling to and what are their needs?

Lord help us the day we start rating Dodge technology by their Neon instead of the Viper. 3dfx will have a range of products. A range implies that not all of their products will hold top honors (duh!).

Obewon, please explain to me how ATI is able to be a success given your suppositions about 3dfx.
