Doug, sounds like you might still have a shortcut to the program in your start folder.

Go to Start button-Programs-Start Up
Do you see the program there?

If so:
Click the My Computer icon-C:-Windows-Start Menu-Programs-Start Up
and delete the icon

PS You can put a short cut to any program you want to run on boot into this folder and Winodws will run it automatically. ie I put a short cut to my Resource meter in this folder so Windows always starts it whenever I boot the computer.
