SYDNEY, Australia (January 3, 1999 1:40 p.m. EST nandotimes.com) - The euro made its international trading debut Monday, changing hands at $1.1747 in U.S.dollars at the start of official trading, Sydney dealers said. Australia became the world's first market to deal in Europe's new currency.

Other opening trades were reported at 0.7080 sterling, 1.6110 Swiss francs, and 1.9190 Australian dollars.
