One can laugh at this idea considering the market share MS has but if Apple can sustain a market share greater than 10% or even much higher, it's going to hurt MS.

I'm not laughing, Ed. If I were Bill I'd be worried more about Linus Torvalds than I was Steve Jobs. I haven't paid too much attention to the whole Linux movement until recently, but I think that Apple's willingness, (nee, eagerness?) to implement Linux compatibility in future OS builds may turn out to be a key decision for the future of THE OS. soup or Adam might be able to provide illumination here....

"All" guys like Ellison and Jobs have to do is sit around and continue to innovate, and sooner or later MSFT will wear down, disintegrate. It occurred to me as I stood in the shower this morning that it's not very often a company in the computer industry gets a chance to be reborn. Steve's been able to re-shape Apple in some really significant ways, taking advantage not only of his considerable market savvy but also the knowledge gained by observing the mistakes of others (some of whom didn't survive their mistakes).

Those coming late to the party see Apple as an exciting company on the move. Those of us who've been using Apple hardware and software for the past 15 years (and longer) really know what the excitement is about.

Anyone care to guess how many posts we'll have to this thread between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on 01/05? Couple hundred?
