Sili Investor and others:

A thought just occurred to me about Paul Godin's comments regarding Canadian internet sales being less than spectacular. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that Godin was making a general observation about the Canadian internet market in general, especially over the past couple of years, and not just about BII in particular or its Q4 results. Let us not forget that BII also has U.S. sales to take into account when looking at its "numbers" so not everything is riding on Canadian sales performance in these results! We should therefore be careful to not read too much into these kinds of statements at this point. Traditionally, if a company knows for a fact it is going to deliver poor results, it will make an announcement to this effect deliberately (at least in most cases) to forewarn investors of the bad news. Godin has not done this YET. In the case of good results, the company may want to "spring" it upon investors to really shake the market up and achieve the desired effect along with other good news all the while keeping us guessing about what kind of "numbers" we can really expect!! In other words, it is quite possible BII has some pretty good results to report, but doesn't want to raise hopes or start the party too early in case the effect wears off too soon! The price could rise sharply if Godin took this approach and investors started to feel somewhat overinflated in their optimism prior to a release, only to have the share price come crashing down if it doesn't meet these pumped-up hopes making a recovery more difficult!
