Ibexx - Re: "My question: did you experience any heat dissapation problem with your PCG? -- "

My Sony is the PCG 707 - and it has a 166 MHz Pentium MMX - the original 0.35 micron part which runs at 2.5 or 2.7 volts. This dissipates much more power than the mobile Pentium II which should run at about 1.6 volts and about 8 watts, more or less.

As far as heat dissipation goes, the bottom rear of my machine gets VERY warm - I won't call it hot, but it is WARM !

I have checked the BOTTOM of the new Sony Pentium MMX's (0.25 micron) and mobile Pentium II machines - ranging in speed from 233 to 300 MHz -at various retail stores - NONE OF THEM get anywhere near as hot as mine !

However, there has never been any problem whatsoever due to that heat, other than the fact that battery life ranges from only 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

So far, I have lugged it across country twice on vacation and my 10 year old son has lugged it as well and used it - so far it keeps on ticking !

Good luck on your choice - I'm certain that a Sony or a Dell will prove an excellent mobile computer.
