Richard, thanks for all the excellent research work you've posted so far. I know you work hard at this and we all appreciate it.
"Insofar as the Mondex pilot goes, I wouldn't expect significant revenue in the short term (I may be wrong here) but it should go a long way to securing the attention other telecom, internet, or e-com players and lead to future contracts and/or partnerships."
The connection with Mondex was what drew my attention to this company and is (in my opinion) a very important stepping stone to future expansion and success.
As you are probably already aware, there are many competing forms of e-cash and e-commerce in the marketplace today. Mondex is very important because (for Canada at least) it has already become the "de-facto" standard for smart card technology and exchange of electronic cash. I say de-facto standard because literally every one of Canada's major financial institutions (Royal, BMO, CIBC, TD, BNS, National Bank of Canada, Canada Trust, as well as Credit Union Central Canada and the Caisses Desjardins) has a stake in and part ownership of Mondex Canada, and thru that group in Mondex International.
Furthermore Mastercard International (one of North America's two largest card issuers, the other being Visa) is part owner of Mondex International.
This means that Mondex prevailing with their standards in Canada, if not in all of North America, is a virtual certainty. Being one of the first to provide hardware compliant with the Mondex standards is very important and will open many doors for Aastra.
Meanwhile their growth and emergence as a recognized and trusted name in supplying telephony equipment to some of the major players in the North American market place assures that they will have the revenue to continue to be a player in this new arena. I am firmly convinced that Mondex, in just a few years, will be as common place as the standard "bank debit card" that virtually every single person in Canada is carrying today.

MCF.TSE (Microforum Inc) is a great turn-around story, under new management, with a proprietary suite of e-commerce enabling software called iFront, and recently announced contracts with many large names such as StorageTek, Ford Canada, Sony Canada, Staples/Business Depot, amongst others, and a recent partnership with GE Capital IT Solutions. Their recent revenue reports are just as impressive (if not more so) as Aastra's ... reporting record revenue increases of 54%, 310% and 576% in recent fiscal quarters. |
