To Jon: Thanks for posting the NYT piece on Airtouch and Bell Atlantic. Key question is what FCC, Department of Justice and other federal and state regulations will permit to be retained in a Bell Atlantic- Airtouch-GTE merger. A new vital aggressive nationwide CDMA service provider alongside Sprint PCS would be good for the Q. Realistically this will take some time to accomplish if it can be at all however. And in the meantime it may actually stall plans that the three companies have separately. Do think Bell Atlantic has shown that it is progressive and aggressive, so the combination under Bell Atlantic leadership should be a powerful counterpoint to AT&T. But suggest that we not hold our breath. Not likely to be completed this calendar year is it? Comments? Chaz
