NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 1999--Conexant Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT) Monday announced that it has appointed Thomas A. Stites to the new position of senior vice president of communications, reporting directly to Dwight W. Decker, chairman and chief executive officer.

Conexant is the former Rockwell Semiconductor Systems business recently spun off as a separate company from Rockwell International Corp.

Stites joins Conexant this month to manage the development and implementation of the company's overall communications
strategy, including all activities related to employee communications, strategic and marketing communications, advertising,
public relations, creative services, tradeshows and events and technical publications.

He was previously vice president of communications for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in Sunnyvale, Calif., where he
managed all aspects of the company's worldwide communications programs.

Stites' team will include Christopher Gorciak, who has been promoted to executive director of communications. Gorciak has
been with the company since 1996, and most recently managed the creation and execution of Conexant's multimillion-dollar
campaign to launch a new name, logo, strategic positioning and brand identity, as the company begins independent operation in
the communications semiconductor marketplace.

"Tom joins a strong communications team at Conexant, at a time when we are rapidly building momentum as an independent
operation," Decker said. "He has a great deal of experience in integrating the full range of public relations, marketing and
employee communications activities into a single cohesive voice, and will be instrumental in helping us to most effectively
articulate our new company's vision and values."

Prior to his most recent position at AMD, Stites was the company's director of marketing communications. Before that, he was
vice president of marketing at Pyramid Technology in San Jose, Calif., a post he assumed after serving as director of corporate
communications and then director of product marketing.
