Tricord reflects SAN optimism

zdnet.com

An investment team led by former Compaq CEO Rod Canion last week invested $3 million in Tricord Systems, another sign of the industry's faith in storage area networking.

Tricord, once a server hardware company, now exclusively develops storage management software for Windows NT platforms. The company uses a distributed file system to spread files across a disk array to create a data pool. The product is due next year.

Under the terms of the agreement, the investors will receive 3 million shares of restricted common stock at $1 per share.

In addition, several former Compaq employees are taking management positions at Tricord. Canion, however, has no apparent plans to join the company.
