I am only guessing here, because, as I said, I only follow these stocks from a distance. From what I have read, they aren't losing money on the operational side. Their competitors, who don't have access to the cheap capital currently available to Internet companies in the stock market, are selling books for less. This bolsters the notion that AMZN is turning an operational profit. Basically, I believe the propaganda about how they are spending alot on advertising to build up mind share. I think the idea of building critical mass on the Internet is important. But, I do not think any of this is certain, and even if it is true, the stock is overpriced.
