There are problems with any merger, and those problems are likely to be much worse in a merger of the "shotgun wedding" variety, so I am sure that Hyundai and LG will have problems as the merger progresses.
The fact that the Koreans are leading the move to 256MB is not surprising, nor does it prove anything. They led the moves from 4MB to 16MB and from 16MB to 64MB as well, and yet MU was profitable at the time because they used technology as advanced, but applied it to the volume parts at the time. The more you watch this business, the more history repeats itself. Being late to switch to 16MB did not adversely affect MU, nor did being late to 64MB, and arguably the decision helped their bottom line at the time. Why should now be different?
