I am a current shareholder of NEOG but have been reading of photonic methods for detection of pathogens in foods. Spectroscopic methods appear to be faster and have comparable results to wet chemistry methods. A recent article appeared in Oct 98 issue of Photonics Spectra which indicates that food safety tests will grow from $104.7 million in 1998 to $150.6 million by 2003. Key optical detection food safety work is ongoing at Montana State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Sandia National Labs, SatCon Technology Corp, and Cornell University. The SatCon Tech Corp can detect E. coli and salmonella. I am interested in any comments on how these new optical technologies may play out against NEOG. Any thoughts?
