A while back I asked about a site for lowest priced books. This month, a Fortune article talked about Buy.Com. They have the cheapest books and videos and software, etc. They guarantee it. Fortune had an interesting piece about Buy.com. They lose money on every item they sell. They plan on losing money for quite a while. They want to guarantee the lowest price and they'll eventually make money through advertisements. So, they say. Who knows. Just an interesting thought and an intriguing argument for losing money on e-commerce. The whole idea behind Buy.com is to bring customers to the site. No ifs ands or buts. They'll sell it cheaper than anyone. That's good enough for me. I'll go research elsewhere and buy it from them. Any thoughts from the brains here?
