The Web Top - using the desktop as a navigator that combines views of local and remote (Internet) resources. Microsoft ActiveDesktop was first. Netscape came up with the idea. Sure, MSFT was first to implement it, but that is because they already had an entire GUI desktop platform and all they needed to do was to add extensions to get the ActiveDesktop.
