Well an Airplane does weigh in at several hundred thousand pounds
if your refering to the crashes of jumbo jets. But some people do
survive from crashes.
Look at the thrust those alumimum engine struts have to handle not
to mention the weight and flexiblity the wing spar has to go through
to pass inspections.
That said have you ever seen the pile of crap that a Steel bodied car makes when it hits the wall at 100MPH. But all cars have to pass the
goverment bumper test, doesn't matter if it is made out of plastic,
it still has to pass the goverment test.

If you want protection buy an APC, armour personnel carrier.

BTW take alook at the corvette, Aluminum A-ARMs and drive shaft.
Take a look at a car engine these days, All aluminum alloy, block and
head.

Have you ever seen the pile of crap an air plane makes when it doesn't land just right? It will have to be a super alloy for me to believe that alignment will not suffer from a minor fender bender. A bent frame is a bent frame.
