RE:"1). brand equity
2). KNI instructions
3). 66 bus versus 100/133 bus
4). high-end Pentium will have 'higher Mhz' than high-end Celeron"...

1. Aren't Celeron and Pentium II the same "Intel Inside" brand?
Any brand recog. between Cleron and Pentium is smoke and mirrors.
2. Yawn, MMX revisted...still with enough money and hype....
3. 66MHz bus vs 100MHz...not much difference, 100 sounds better...
again, pull the wool over their eyes.
4. At 400 there are TWO speed grade overlaps 366/400 over the Pentium II line (350 and 400). And only one speed grade above (450).
Before, there were 3 speed grades above the Celeron 333...
It's pretty obvious that Intel didn't want to come out with the Celeron 400 until AFTER the release of the Katmai (500) but they were unwilling to give anymore market share to AMD. At least they stayed on a 66MHz bus, the Celeron 400 was supposed to be 4x100 if released in the 2nd qtr.

Can the Pentium II demand a nice Premium? Maybe...but until then, the Pentium II will suffer baby.

Jim
