WAYNE, IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING AN EXCEL SPREADSHEET NOW FOR LAST YEAR, I'D RECOMMEND WAITING FOR THE BROKER'S 1099.

Then enter data from the 1099, and tie out your column total to their total. Once this is tied in you are in good shape and then can proceed in finding your purchase tickets to match up with.

You also might skip a few of those "extra" columns that I use for my own analysis purposes. Just use the same columns the IRS requires. Use the same column order as a Sch D-1.
