U.S. Voice/Data WAN Equipment and Service Expenditures to Reach 13.3 Billion in 2002

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 1999--Infonetics Research, Inc. announced the release of its latest strategic market study -- User Plans for Voice/Data Convergence on the WAN 1998.

The study provides an in-depth look into the fast moving WAN convergence market. In this study we forecast that equipment and service expenditures will grow about 800%, from $1.5 billion in 1998 to $13.3 billion in 2002.

The telecommunications market for enterprise-sized companies (over 1,000 employees) is on the verge of a revolution, and a big part of that revolution is the convergence of voice and data networks on the corporate WAN.

Network product manufacturers and service providers are now offering three flavors of WAN convergence -- voice over ATM (VoATM), voice over frame relay (VoFR), and voice over IP (VoIP) networks -- that promise cost savings and tempting new features. Many of our respondent enterprise network managers are starting voice/data convergence in 1998 and planning large-scale implementation in 1999.

''There has been a lot of speculation in the industry about what will really drive end-users to convergence on the WAN,'' noted Jeff Wilson, director of Access Programs. ''Nearly all the respondents in this study cite cost savings as a major benefit of voice/data convergence.''

User Plans for Voice/Data Convergence on the WAN 1998 explores the current convergence of voice and data networks on the corporate WAN in depth, including technologies, product market forecasts, strategic findings and marketing recommendations, and much more. The study comprises over 230 pages and 100 exhibits.
