Thanks for this fragment. Relevant factette: There was a very serious attempt to modernize the mythological power/process of death and resurrection in the middle part of this century. One school was headed by Tim Leary. The other was headed by Ken Kesey.
Psychedelic drugs, as epitomized by LSD, have the remarkable, immediate ability ot bring this transformation event into the shag-carpeted living rooms of a suburban culture.
Both attempts failed. Tim crawled into his navel. His bud Alpert remade hinself as Baba Ram Dass and quit the game. Ken shook himself and his Merry Pranksters apart. Now any psychedelic is a Federal blasphemy, relegated to Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances roster.
