What the hey is virtual resolution?

Virtual resolution is the same as having one very large screen...you just can not see it all at once. Imagine a 30 in monitor and a cardboard cutout that you hold in your hand that masks some of the screen. You could move the cardboard cutout to see the hidden areas.

One also might compare it to panning. The difference is there is no redraw time. The redraws are instantaneous as you move your mouse to the edge of the screen the hidden area moves into view.

The option is a video card specific option in Win95. I am not sure what Win98 options are. Matrox and number nine cards usually have the option. I am sure there are other cards. To see if your card has the option right click on the desktop and check properties. The option probably will appear under settings if you have it. You can select from several options..ie more space to the right, left or up and down.

When I had a 17 in monitor I set it up with one screen to the right, one screen below and one to the lower right..equivalent to a four monitor setup. With my 21 I can not get four screens so I set up space to the right and some below.

Some laptop users will be familiar with this option as it is a common original install option.

I upgraded to Win98 and the virtual resolution was horrible. I believe the Win98 multimonitor support threw a wrench in the works. The only reason I switched from Win98 back to Win95 was so I could have quality virtual resolution.

Some users will not like virtual resolution at all. It takes a little getting used to..IMO it is a poor man's multimonitor solution.
