Do you enjoy novels? What about film? I was just talking with Cobaltblue about The Seventh Seal a marvelous movie- full of symbolism- so full in fact I keep renting it because I see something new each time, or make different connections. All literature, all art- even photography- is make believe in a way. It shows us the world as one individual, the artist, saw it. Isn't that basically what myths are? Originally some story, as some artist long told it. Some one here - I am sorry I can't remember who- made the connection between words and food- and words are one food of the mind. Stories- which are make believe- are that kind of food. At least I feel nourished by stories. Sometimes, I read something and I swear I can feel my mind expand- because I understand something I did not understand before, or I make a new connection, or have a new idea.

I think the problem you have is when people transport that make believe into the real world- magic realism come to life. If you saw House of the Spirits or Like Water for Chocolate you know what I mean. I agree with you and I think that IS a problem because really magical thinking CAN be dangerous- to the believers and to people who get in the believers way.
