Dell Adds New 450MHz Pentium II Xeon Processors to Dell Precision WorkStation Product Line; Prices Cut On Dell Precision WorkStations By Up To 7.7 Percent

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced the availability of Intel 450MHz Pentium(R) II Xeon(tm) processors with 1MB of cache in the Dell Precision(tm) WorkStation 610 product line. Dell will offer the new processor with either 512KB, 1MB or 2MB of cache in the Dell PowerEdge(R) 6300 and PowerEdge 6350 products.
Dell has also cut U.S. prices on Dell Precision WorkStations. The price of a Dell Precision WorkStation 410 with a 400MHz Pentium II processor, 9GB hard drive, 256MB of RAM, 32X CD-ROM(1) and 21-inch monitor (19-inch viewable) is $3,923, a drop of 7.7 percent. The 450MHz Pentium II Xeon processor's larger cache allows workstation and server customers to manipulate large sets of data at the fastest speed available in an Intel Pentium processor. For example, workstation customers using applications with large data sets in the computer-aided engineering (CAE), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and digital content creation (DCC) markets may see a performance gain by using the new processors.
