Call Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of network-based enhanced
services and operational support systems, announced that it has
joined the MultiVoice Alliance Program sponsored by Ascend
Communications, Inc.(Nasdaq: ASND), a leader in wide area
networking (WAN) and Intelligent Network (IN) solutions for providers
and users of the next generation public network. The MultiVoice
Alliance extends Ascend's offerings to provide best-in-class
Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) solutions for enterprise and network service
provider customers through key alliances with other leading
application providers.

Ascend Communications will now recommend Call Technologies' Call
Courier products to next generation carriers in the VoIP arena. Call
Courier is a suite of hardware-independent messaging solutions that
provide capabilities including Unified Messaging and Internet voice
messaging based on the H.323 standard. Carriers that choose
solutions offered by Ascend and Call Technologies will be able to
offer customers robust IP-based solutions for the complete range of
voice services, with the same functionality and quality as traditional
voice networks, at a lower cost.

"We're extremely pleased to welcome Call Technologies to our
growing list of members in the MultiVoice Alliance Program," said Dick
Slezak, Ascend's Vice President of Product Management. "Call
Technologies' next generation Unified Messaging platform represents
the 'best in class' applications that Network Service Providers need
to rapidly deliver high-profit, IP-based services."

"The rapid growth of the Voice-Over-IP market in 1998 demonstrates
that Internet telephony has graduated from 'phenomenon' to service
reality driven by strong customer demand," said Rich LaPerch, Call
Technologies' Vice President and General Manager. "As businesses
and consumers turn to VoIP, they will choose carriers that offer
levels of service and enhancements representing improvements over
traditional telephony. Call Technologies is very proud to join with
Ascend in developing IP telephony solutions that truly redefine the
marketplace and set the course of telecommunications for the 21st
century."

Today's announcement is the first step in what Ascend and Call
Technologies intend to be an evolving relationship to jointly develop
products. The companies plan to introduce new offerings that extend
the full functionality of Ascend's MultiVoice products to the
applications running on Call Technologies' software-based messaging
systems.

Ascend's award-winning MultiVoice strategy is a comprehensive
architecture for delivering voice and fax calls over IP, Asynchronous
Transfer Mode (ATM), and Frame Relay networks. The MultiVoice
Alliance Program ensures that MultiVoice for the MAX customers are
equipped with complete solutions that include application
functionality beyond the Ascend VoIP/FoIP Gateway and Access
Manager platforms. To meet growing customer needs, value-added
partners supply mainstream applications, including billing,
settlement/roaming, fax, multimedia and unified messaging.

Ascend Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASND) develops,
manufactures, sells and services wide area networking solutions for
