My understanding is that flowable product in most drink boxes/pouches is HTST treated (high temperature/short time), that is, processed using a thermal aseptic method deemed "flash pasteurization". The rapid heating, in 3-15 seconds, supposedly kills any harmful microorganisms while reducing thermal stress on the product, thus retaining its nutrients and flavor. My belief, however, is that the product is cooled prior to packaging.
