I have heard similar stories from other people on SI; I suppose it's a universal issue but it just struck me as a shock at the time. I still have not heard from my friend, who I have known since college. Spooks me a little, we have been married over 20 years. I no longer know many that have and it seems more of a tenuous situation due to the splits around us. I'm not quite certain how I would handle it, myself. I've been married almost half as long as I have been alive. I guess it's one of those issues I do not like to think about; I'm not emotionally well equipped enough, I suppose. Come to think of it, I don't have any close friends of many years who have been married as long as us; sheesh, I just bummed myself out.
