George--I don't follow XOMA as closely as you and others do, but the article I saw on deaths in England cited 280 deaths out of 2800 cases. This is a 10% rather than 20% rate (which XOMA assumed for meningococcemia) thus the number of patients needed for statistical significance would increase. This may explain why the trial went well beyond its original enrollment plans. Can you or Caicito calculate the number of patients needed at the 10% rate.
