OTOT..Intel is undergoing one of it's periodic upward P/E adjustments. Characteristic of INTC is it's tendency to be flat for a year or so, then have a steep climb. This tends to be repeated forming a chart pattern much like a staircase. Taking advantage of the run up,I lightened up my position yesterday. I used to own MSFT, but at the moment don't have any. My motive in this is that if they lose the first stage of the anti trust litigation I might get some stock cheap. The judge appears to have a strong bias in favor of the prosecution. It would seem that as the price of computers fall, operating system and other software will represent such an increased percent of the total cost that the pressure for lower software prices will be overwhelming. If MSFT won't deliver lower prices, someone else will. The trend to lower PC prices is bound to eventually impact their profit margins, though they may compensate for this with increased volume.
Having missed the early run up in AOL, I don't have the guts to buy any now.
There are companies that might be considered non tech gorillas. If a company is number 1, but there really isn't a number 2, only a number 3, they probably qualify. They completely dominate their business. Examples would be Wal Mart and Home Depot. Do you have your whole portfolio in 4 stocks?
