Their main issues are fiscal conservatism, defense, crime issues, pro-life/anti-abortion, etc. Democrats issues are welfare state, pro-choice/pro-abortion, etc. Note the amount of spending programs in last several weeks breaking his promise to 'save and defend the Social Security surplus'. Contrary to Bush's breaking his promise not to raise taxes, Clinton took the initiative in breaking the balanced budget agreement.
