Compaq and Lotus Expand Their Portfolio of Knowledge Management Solutions
PR Newswire - January 05, 1999 13:02

Help Companies Improve Innovation Processes, Embrace Knowledge-Enabled Selling

HOUSTON, and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Extending their leadership positions in the Knowledge Management (KM) arena, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) and Lotus Development Corp., today announced that they have added two new offerings to their joint KM solutions portfolio for the North American market. The two new Compaq-Lotus KM offerings include Knowledge Associates' Knowledger.Innovation, a rapid route to increased innovation within an organization, and Prevail Knowledge Center with Sales Coaching, a complete knowledge management and sales coaching system from Synergistics and WisdomWare. Both applications are designed to help organizations leverage resident information and expertise to improve business performance.

These integrated, scaleable and easy-to-use KM applications help capture latent knowledge within an organization -- filtering and prioritizing data so it can be effectively used to solve critical business issues such as increasing sales force efficiency and improving innovation and problem solving capabilities. The new offerings help reduce a customer's time to successful deployment and increase user adoption.

Compaq and Lotus are also expanding support for their KM solutions portfolio through a relationship with Cambridge Technology Partners, Inc. (Cambridge), an international management consulting and systems integration firm. Cambridge will offer KM services that leverage both Knowledger.Innovation and Prevail Knowledge Center, as well as the two existing applications in the Compaq and Lotus KM portfolio, Cipher Systems' Knowledge.Works, a competitive intelligence application, and GlobalServe's ResearchAccelerator, a knowledge collaboration solution focused on R&D organizations.

"Lotus and its business partners continue to provide our customers with proven Knowledge Management solutions," said Dave Laverty, vice president, North American Marketing, Lotus Development Corp. "Lotus is excited about our expanding KM alliance with Compaq and the opportunity to work with Compaq and our business partners to help our mutual customers fully tap the knowledge and intellectual capital resident in their organizations."

"Compaq enables organizations to effectively manage and leverage knowledge to solve specific business problems more quickly, more easily and at low cost of ownership, with the widest range of highly integrated NT platforms for Lotus-based solutions," said Ray Villareal, vice president, North America Enterprise Computing, Compaq Computer Corporation. "Today, with our partners, Compaq and Lotus can help customers advance from traditional data and document control technologies to true knowledge management solutions."

Compaq and Lotus are closely coordinating to identify additional best-of- breed Lotus Notes and Domino-based KM solutions, and to test, optimize and configure these solutions for Compaq's market-leading, industry-standard server platform. The two companies are also working together with the application providers to jointly promote, sell, provide training for and implement these knowledge management solutions.

Knowledge Associates' Knowledger.Innovation

Often organizations' efforts to innovate fail because of the perceived need internally to avoid risk taking or because efforts are not properly focused on customers' needs. Knowledger.Innovation addresses these issues by providing a Notes-driven "micro environment," which can operate under its own set of rules despite pressures from within the organization to resist change. The application can also serve as a catalyst for improving existing innovation efforts.

"Our relationship with Compaq and Lotus enables Knowledge Associates to offer an extremely powerful innovation solution anytime, anywhere," said Ron Young, president, Knowledge Associates. "Knowledger.Innovation helps organizations bridge the gap between training and real life. Organization members solve real problems, learning about innovation, while actually doing it."

Synergistics' Prevail Knowledge Center and WisdomWare's Sales Coaching

Prevail Knowledge Center with Sales Coaching provides sales and marketing organizations with a complete knowledge management and sales coaching solution. To fully understand the drivers that impact customers' needs and interests, salespeople require information from many disparate sources such as Web sites or their company's backoffice system. However, they cannot invest extensive periods of time searching for the information that will help them sell more effectively.

Prevail Knowledge Center achieves this by delivering valuable information such as competitive analysis, proposal templates and pricing schedules to salespeople on a just-in-time basis. The solution's knowledge donation, author support and expert locator features allow focused, easy access to the crucial information salespeople need to succeed. WisdomWare's sales coaching system completes the solution, utilizing a relational object model and user interface that emulates one-to-one coaching.

"We believe this alliance brings together the proper balance of technologies and methodologies that is needed for successful implementation of Knowledge Management initiatives for Sales and Marketing within the customer enterprise," said Lewis Miller, president, Synergistics.

Pricing and Availability

Knowledge Associates' Knowledger.Innovation pricing begins at $60,000 for a pilot site license. The Prevail Knowledge Center with Sales Coaching is priced according to the size of the sales and marketing organization deploying the solution. These solutions will also be available through Cambridge Technology Partners.
