Mark:

I don't know too much about Oak but based on posts from both Andy and others along with last quarters ESS conference call I thought VCD was controlled by only two companies.

I know that 100,000 is small relative to Cube and ESS shares but it makes the overall VCD shipments in the 4th quarter huge!!!

Based on an H&Q analyst Cube shipped 1.7 million units in the 4th Q but based on Alex's statement that they did almost 6 million in 1996, I think that they would have had to do closer to 2 million. ESS said they shipped 650 thousand which makes 4th quarter shipments between 2.45 and 2.75 million with India just beginning to adopt this product. So it looks like either 1997 will significantly surpass analyst estimates of 11-12 million units or there may be a build up of inventory.

BTW I think taht 85% of Oak's revenue comes from CDROM ICs but they allegedly made some forward looking statements anticipating significant DVD revenue in 1997. Their 4th quarter earnings were favorably impacted by some one time gains.
